The Committee in Solidarity with The People of El Salvador (CISPES) was founded 40 years ago!
Since 1980, CISPES has accompanied the Salvadoran popular movement in their visionary organizing towards a new society and a new world – one based on equality, real democracy, economic justice y paz con justicia. We are proud to still be in the fight leading effective grassroots campaigns against U.S. intervention in Central America – and that work could not be more urgent now.
The new president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, has been ramping up militarization to levels that haven’t been seen since the war, including in response to COVID-19.
You won’t be surprised to learn that the U.S. is continuing to pour money into the police and military – not to mention financing some of the corporations that are hoping to strike gold if the right-wing gets away with their plans to privatize national industries like health care and water.
CISPES and the popular movement will need all the support they can get from individuals like me and you! This May, our goal is to raise $20,000 to strengthen this fight against U.S. backed authoritarianism and militarism.
